General strike in Kathamndu Paralyzed the Capital

General strike announced by seven agitating political parties on Dec 16 made public life affected. Not only the capital city kathmandu but also other part of the country remained tensed yesterday. General strike or " Valley Bandh " was called by seven agitating political parties to protest against the killing of 12 civilians by a crazy army personnel at Nagarkot. In kathmandu, Capital city of Nepal general strike was almost total.
Few vehicles was seen on the roads. Almost all schools and colleges remained closed. Industries and the market places were aslo closed.Demonstrators clashed with security personnel time and again since this morning, mainly in campus areas like New Baneshwar, Min Bhawan, Patan Dhoka and the situation there has remained tense.
Students from different campus started their protest from early in the morning. Police arrested the students leaders from the spot. Students almost all campus protest infront of their campus burning tyres and chanting anti Monarchy sologans.
Despite of heavy security presence protesters successed to organize protest rally and corner meetings on the different part of the Valley.
The most affected spot was the Bhaktapur and the Ring Road area's of Kathmandu.
According to Kathmandu Valley Police Office at Ratna Park, police took 89 people in custody from Kathmandu and 31 from Bhaktapur. It said 21 policemen were injured during clashes with irate demonstrators. The opposition parties said dozens of their cadres and student activists were also injured during clashes with police.
But the agitating political parties have said that thousands of people in Bhaktapur have protested against Wednesday’s killing of innocent villagers. It said the shutdown strike was a success and that a huge number of people took part in the rallies organized by opposition parties.
