Zia-ur-Rehman guides Bajaur Greens to win Inter-Club Cricket

PESHAWAR,May 9 ;Ghani ur Rahman: Middle order batsman Zia-ur-Rehman guided
Bajaur Greens to clinch the trophy of the Inter-Club Cricket
Tournament played at Bajaur Sports Complex ground on Friday.
Sharifullah Khan Wazir, Political Agent Bajaur was the chief guest on
this occasion. Before the start of the final the players of both the
finalists were introduced to him. PCB Umpire Irfanuddin Khan hailing
from Bajaur, Organizing Secretary and Secretary of the Bajaur Cricket
Association Shah Faisal Khan, APA Mehmood Iqbal Khattak Tehsildar
Mawaz Khan Afridi were and large number of cricket spectators
witnessed the thrilling final.
Bajaur Green skipper Akbar won the toss and elected to bat first by
setting up 251 runs with the help of solid contribution by middle
order Zia-ur-Rehman. Zia played vital role in team target, especially
after the departure of the top order batting line-up. Zia smashed 93
runs with nine boundaries and two sixes. Israr Khan hammered another
cracking 57 off 66 balls with five boundaries and two sixes, the
other batsmen failed to add any vital score.
Thus Bajaur Greens made 251 runs after playing 46.1 overs of the
allotted 50 overs. For National club Arshad took three wickets, Iqbal
got two wickets and Muhammad Shah got two wickets.
In reply, National club bowled out for 200 runs with opener Gohar
Khan, a substitute for the final, made elegant knock of 50 runs with
three boundaries and two sixes after playing 71 balls. Liaqat Ali,
the tail ender, scored 86 runs and none of the other batsmen could
stand firmly in front of Green bowling attack.
For Bajaur Greens Waheed, Israr and Irfan, Anwar Khan and Rizwan took
one wicket each while Fayyaz Khan took two wickets. Ismail Khan of
Chahat club was declared best player of the tournament while Irfan of
Chahat club was declared best batsman. Azhar-ul-Haq, skipper of Ajiz
club was declared best sportsman while regular spectator Shah Sher
Khan (55) was given special prize. The President of Khyber Cricket
Association also announced Rs. 2000/ cash for the winners.
Speaking on this occasion, Shah Faisal disclosed that 15 clubs took
part in the tournament of 50 overs for the first time in Bajaur
Agency. He said there was paid umpires for the tournament. He said,
the tournament was started on April 18 through key support provided
by PA Bajaur, APA Bajaur and Tehsildar Bajaur. He stressed on the
youth to come forward and actively participate in sports activities
so that they could go at national level and achieve name and fame for
the country while representing the agency.
At the end, the chief guest gave away trophies and cash prizes. PA
Bajaur assured the youth that every possible steps would be taken to
provide them all facilities of sports in the agency.
