Abbottabad is famous due to

Abbottabad is a city located in the Hazara area of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. The city is situated in the Orash Valley, 115 kilometres (71 mi) northeast of the capital Islamabad and 150 kilometres (93 mi) east of Peshawar . The city is well-known throughout Pakistan for its pleasant weather, high-standard educational institutions and military establishments.
The town of Abbottabad, under the British Raj, was the headquarters of the Hazara District during British rule of India. It was named after Major James Abbott who founded the town and district in January 1853 after the annexation of Punjab. He remained the first Deputy Commissioner of the Hazara district from 1849 until April 1853. Major Abbott is noted for having written a poem titled "Abbottabad", before he went back to Britain, in which he wrote of his fondness for the town and his sadness at having to leave it. In the early 20th century, Abbottabad became an important military cantonment and sanatorium, serving as the headquarters of a brigade in the Second Division of the Northern Army Corps.

The announcement of the new name also lead to calls from Hazara for a new separate province.Ten persons died, and nearly two hundred hurt during the rallies and protest all over Hazara region against NWFP and creation of new province Hazara in April, 2010.Complete wheel-jam and shutter-down strike was observed in the Hazara belt on second May, 2010,under the leadership of Baba Haider Zaman in support of the demand for a Hazara province and against the renaming of NWFP as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.Traffic remained suspended all day while business centres were closed in Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan and Haripur. Peaceful demonstrations and rallies were also carried out and no loss of life or property was reported from any district of the division.
Large public meetings in this regard as well as public protests have been regularly organised by the HQM and 'Tehreek I Hazara' movement, since; but the name of the NWF Province has been duly changed to 'Khyber Pakhtunkwha' and is a 'fait accompli'. The leadership of the Hazara movement, however, have vowed to continue their struggle until the achievement of their aims via peaceful and constitutional means.
