Chandigarh, April 4 - Mr. Sabeer Bhatia, a pioneer in the field of web based e-mail, is exploring the possibility of setting up a Knowledge City, to be known as Nano City, in Haryana. It would be the largest Nano City in the country and its Intellectual Capital City of the future. The Haryana Government has decided to immediately constitute a joint working group to finalize the location and the basic parameters of the project within a period of three months. While interacting with mediapersons, in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister, Mr.Bhupinder Singh Hooda, here today, Mr. Bhatia said,” the goal of our efforts is to create a Silicon Valley in Haryana. Although Silicon technology was first introduced in 1970s and was old, but the Knowledge City would create technologies of the future.” He said that the exact location of the project would be decided in next few months. He thanked Haryana government for inviting him for to explore the possibility of setting up of this project and hoped that it would be accomplished. He pointed out that not all states have the kind of vision which Haryana has. Mr. Bhatia described the policies of the present Haryana government as really futuristic. He said that in future all jobs in the world have to be based on knowledge based economy. He said that companies like Google, e-bay, Yahoo and Amazon.com were of next generation . When asked that was he exploring other States for the same project, he admitted that he had been exploring other States for other projects, but not for this project. He said that although India has the second largest software pool, yet it has not produced such products on is own. He predicted that five trillion dollors of economy would be created in next five years. In reply to a question, the Haryana Principal Secretary and Financial Commissioner, Industries, Mr. P.K. Chaudhary said that the location specific study of the project would reveal the volume of investment to be made, but added that it would have best connectivity of internet, State of art institutes, world class infrastructure and it would not be possible to predict investment, but it would be in several multiples. He said that a detailed agreement would be signed by the company of Mr. Bhatia with the Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation to set up this mega project. He said that infrastructure for the project would be developed through public private partnership. It would be the project of national significance and best of its kind in the country. When asked about the incentives being offered by Haryana government to Mr. Bhatia, Mr. P.K. Chaudhary said that the Chief Minister has directed the concerned officers to set up fast track mechanism for this project as it was not the traditional project. Mr. Bhatia said that “once we are successful in the project, India would take a big leap. India needs to go out of manufacturing economy to knowledge based economy. It would be first of its kind project in the country”. He said that nothing of this kind has been done before. When asked that what made him choose Haryana, he said that he has been exploring the possibility and was appreciative of synergy and vision of Haryana government.They were really thinking of knowledge based economy, he added. Mr Chaudhary said that the State Government expected this city to cover technologies such as Nano Technology, Bio Sciences, Software Product Development, Next Generation Internet Products, Materials Research and Energy. The time was ripe for India to move into the next phase for the development of products and technologies for the world market in the afore mentioned areas. We foresee research establishments such as US Universities, R&D Centres of companies which have been the centres of innovation to carry out multi-disciplinary research and collaborative research with Indian centres of excellence in this city. Our endeavour is to make this a project of National significance and the Government of Haryana shall assist in promoting the project by setting up a fast track mechanism for approvals, he added. |
